If you want to build anything (life, business, success, marriage, relationships, etc.), it is imperative for you to lay down a proper foundation in accordance with the structure you plan to build.

My father-in-law spent over 20 years as a professional homebuilder and he took great pride in the quality and surety of the foundations upon which he built his houses. Foundations are critical in the success of a build.

I often think about the massive skyscrapers erected in cities around the world. Careful planning comes in play as a foundation is meticulously engineered to support the building or structure to be constructed upon it.

Why should our lives be any different?

In today’s feature presentation, I’m going to share how you can engineer, construct, and lay a foundation for success, prosperity, and happiness, that will stand the test of time.

How the “B-Word” Affects Your Life https://brianholmes.com/b-word-affects-life/ https://brianholmes.com/b-word-affects-life/#respond Wed, 20 Sep 2017 10:01:38 +0000 Val Kleppen https://brianholmes.com/?p=10365 believer b word belief

One topic I talk about often is belief. I share it on my podcast, I write about it, I talk about it on my Monday Mastery videos.

My premise and focus is this: What a person's mind can believe, it can achieve.

If you believe something deeply enough in your heart, if you confidently believe you can accomplish, can be, can become, can write, can do, can have, etc., there is something about the power of another dimension (in my case, I believe it comes from heaven) that comes alongside and puts wind in your sail.

This dimension puts the capacity and the ability in your hands to perform at levels you never dreamed possible. BUT, you have to believe.

I am a believer.

This dimension puts the capacity and the ability in your hands to perform at levels you never dreamed possible. BUT, you have to believe.

I am a believer.

As I celebrated my 50th birthday earlier this year, some of my precious friends gave me one of the most unique and touching gifts I’ve ever received over the course of my entire life. It was packaged in a large gift bag and as they handed it to me said, “Before you open the gift, read this.”

At that point, they handed me a framed letter written on parchment paper, which said: “The greatest gift we see in you is your ability to help others believe. Believe in themselves, believe in the possibility, believe in their dreams but, most important, believe in the God who created them, by Whom all things are possible and in Whose hands they can entrust their dreams. On January 13, 1967 you were born, and Billboard’s number 1 song was ‘I’m a Believer.’”

(The day I was born, the number 1 song on the radio was “I’m a Believer”!)

The letter then explained, “This, of course, was by The Monkees, and it was from their More of the Monkees album. That single sold more than a million copies in its first 2 days of release. It ranked 1 of fewer than 40 songs in history to sell more than 10 million copies worldwide. Fifty years later now, the song still has a global following in its original or remade versions. It was neither the talent of the 1960s boy band nor its albeit catchy tune that made the song hugely popular. What caught the hearts of music fans in 1967 and still resounds worldwide are the lyrics that assure us we can believe in happy and prosperous endings, that it’s safe to be a for real believer. People want to believe.”

The letter continued, “Because of the first 50 years of your life, people around the world do. People around the world say in their hearts and with their voices, ‘Yes, I’m a believer.’” The letter ended here and was signed by my friends.

First of all, they had me read it out loud in front of a group of people. As I was reading aloud, I became quite weepy. It resonated with all I’ve been working for the past several years. It really, really touched me.

They then handed me a collector’s frame in which was the original album cover and the album of “I’m a Believer.”

I will forever cherish that gift and that experience because that is me; that is my life.

I want to encourage you to be a believer. It’s a new season as we head into fall, and it’s a new season for your life.

In spite of what’s happened in the past, in spite of what’s going on behind you, in spite of some of the things that have set you back along the way, believe in your dream.

Believe in what and in who God has created you to be. Go after that purpose God has given you to fulfill. The people who you are intended to impact in your lifetime, they’re waiting on you to believe enough to get in the game and make it happen.

I want to tell you this: I believe in you. I hope you believe in you, too.

The Power Of Saying Yes https://brianholmes.com/power-saying-yes/ https://brianholmes.com/power-saying-yes/#respond Wed, 13 Sep 2017 10:01:56 +0000 Val Kleppen https://brianholmes.com/?p=10315 yes power

Every promotion in life comes as a result of saying yes to opportunity. You can’t rise to a new level of financial gain, influence, or leadership without first saying yes to an opportunity you’re presented with.

Saying yes requires us to believe, in spite of the lack of facts or the lack of evidence or the lack of data. It requires us to step into the unknown. God never invites you on a journey you have already figured out.

Saying yes means being fully committed to the path, no matter what it may cost you. Saying yes means trusting your heavenly Father is going to give you what you need each day. It means going all in. It means risking it all. It means trusting the outcome is not something you can manufacture, but has been predetermined by your creator. If you’ll simply trust the process, you will get to the destination.

yes power

Most of us say yes with our heads, but don’t mean it in our hearts. We sense a new calling, but we must leave the comforts and familiarity of the present in order to realize the fruit and the benefits and the blessings of the new thing.

When what you have is adequate or safe enough for you, oftentimes you will see the opportunity as an importunity. Because of this innate fear, we shrink back because we lack clarity, understanding, and vision. The possibilities are simply too vague.

When you decide to go all in and pursue what God is inviting you into, you can rest assured there is going to be resistance, some of it external, some of it internal. Why? Because in order to have something you’ve never had, you will be required to do something you’ve never done. To do something you’ve never done requires faith. It most certainly requires a willingness to say yes every day.

I have to say yes every single day because challenges will come. Resistance will make itself known. It’s in those tough times when faith and commitment are essential to see the promotion to this new place. It’s in moments of difficulty where what you are faced with appears bigger than the potential upside of you persisting through the difficulty. It’s in those moments where your “yes” is going to be tested.

Does your “yes” really mean yes? Are you really committed to the process? Are you really committed to seeing it through? Are you really, truly committed to leaving the safety of your present state and environment to possess what you’ve never been able to have or possess? This is the challenge: To say yes, to mean yes, and to live your “yes” every day, no matter what.

You can’t just say yes once. You have to say yes over and over again because you’re going to come to new crossroads. You’re going to come to new thresholds. If you choose to stay in the old setting, you’re robbing yourself of the potential and possibilities in front of you right now.

Look back over the last few months or years of your life. Where have you come from? How glorious has that journey been? Where are you today? Can you say God has proven himself over and over again? He’s always faithful.

But here’s the big question: Can you trust Him now with the next phase of the journey? Can you say yes again and step into what is just in front of you now?

God is not interested in robbing you of anything. Whatever you’ve gained in the process so far, He’s not taking that from you. It was simply a building block. It was a steppingstone into the full measure of what is possible. He’s always leading you forward. He’s always leading you into.

Say yes. Trust the process. Believe with all of your heart what lies ahead of you is greater than what lies behind you. Say yes.

It was the year 1519. Hernán Cortés and his few men, horses, and boats had landed on a vast inland plateau referred to as the Yucatán Peninsula or, as we know it, Mexico. This Spanish conquistador and his men were about to embark on a conquest of a powerful empire that hoarded some of the world’s most awesome treasures: gold, silver, precious jewels were just a part of what was waiting for them should they be able to conquer and to take over this land. Anyone who succeeded in their quest to conquer this Aztec kingdom could lay hold on this incredible treasure.

Cortés had only 600 men, none of whom had encumbered themselves with protective armor, and conquering the Aztec empire, with such an extensive territory, was a death wish. This daring undertaking was made even more insurmountable by the fact that for more than 600 years, conquerors with far more resources at their disposal, who attempted to colonize the Yucatán Peninsula, never succeeded.

And How They Can Change Your Future

three words history

Cortés was well aware of this fact, and it was for this reason he took a different approach when he landed on the land of the these powerful Mayans. Instead of charging through cities and forcing his men into immediate battle, Cortés stayed on the beach where he landed and awakened the souls of his men with emblazoned speeches designed to invoke a thirst for a lifetime of fortune amongst his troops.

Ironically, it would be three words Cortés murmured that would change the history of the new world. As they marched inland to face their enemies, Cortés shouted with a loud voice, “Burn the boats!” If Cortés and his men were on the brink of defeat, there wasn’t an exit strategy in place to save their lives. The command to burn the boats left Cortés and his men with only two choices: Either fight and win, or die because they eliminated the possibility for retreat.

We know today Cortés’ decision to burn his boats panned out. Hernán Cortés became the first man in 600 years to successfully conquer Mexico. Though many historians still dispute Cortés burning his boats, he wasn’t the first man to make such a bold, strategic decision that would ultimately ensure victory.

Was this act of burning the boats a mock dramatization of bravery or a cleverly constructed strategy? In Sun Tzu’s book The Art of War, it brings to light the logic behind these decisions: If we eliminate or eradicate any possibility of retreat from the minds of those who are facing opportunity and if we commit ourselves without any inhibitions to the cause, which is win, conquer, accomplish, defeat is not an option at all.

All of us have a strong propensity to retreat and return to what is familiar and what is known to us. This propensity is so powerful at times it becomes necessary for us to identify the places, things, people, ideas, mindsets to which we default. If we’re serious about winning at the next level, we have to consider eliminating those.

Ray Edwards shared on his vlog, “What got you here is not going to get you there.” If – and I do mean if – you and I are going to realize the success, influence, impact, blessing this season has to offer, it’s going to require we burn the boats.

What is it that brought you to this place right now? What is the ship? What is the vehicle? What is the thing that got you to this threshold? Identify what it is. Know what it is. Maybe it’s a good thing. Maybe it’s been a great thing. But is that now holding you from possessing the thing that’s in front of you?

In the past, how have you responded when you recognize resistance or you become aware of fear or a fear of the unknown? Have you retreated to a place that was familiar, comfortable, known? Own that.

What are you clinging to as your fallback? What have you perceived to be your safety net? What do you need to eliminate? What do you need to light it up and destroy it, eliminate it, move it out of the way so that you have nowhere to go but ahead?

Are you willing to commit everything to the pursuit of your destiny, calling, the new level waiting for you right now? Your greatest days are in front of you. They are not behind you. You can go back, and you can be comfortable. You can go back, and you can be safe. You can go back, and you can avoid risk. You can settle back into what has been for many years.

If your heart is pulling on you, if your desires are saying, “I know there’s more,” if you’re a person of faith and you sense God is saying, “I have something bigger and more influential. I’ve got something more quantifiable. I’ve got something awesome for you right now if you’ll just step into it,” if you sense that call it’s simple. Burn the boats.

Will you say yes to the possibilities before you, or will you retreat to mediocrity?

Burn the boats. There are treasures waiting for you. There is nowhere meaningful to go but forward.
