Over the last two weeks, we have been talking about rising to the next level. The premise is simple: there is a next level waiting, but whether you choose to engage or not is up to you.

As you're probably aware, I turned 50 earlier this year. While others may not be excited about that landmark, I'm more excited than I've ever been.

As we prepare to take our website, podcast, and business to the next level, I want to pull back the curtain today and give you a peek into some of the lessons I've learned, the changes made, the challenges faced, and the glorious hope I have about the future.

Tune in to this episode for The State Of The Host Address: An Inside Look At My Own Quest For The Next Level.

This is fitting since the year is 2017 and these are 17 items for getting your year on track. Aside from the numerical coincidence, however, this is a list you’ll want to keep close at hand for reviewing and renewing your goals and success on a regular basis. Let’s dive right into these 17 ways to ensure you’ll have a knock-out year.

1: Review your previous goals

You can’t look forward unless you’ve had an introspective, retrospective view of where you’ve been and what you’ve accomplished so far.

What did you set as previous goals? How did you perform? What did you do? Did they turn out to be maybe not even relevant or important to where you were headed? A lot of times, over the course of a year you may adjust some goals.

2: Celebrate your big wins

We’ve been taught from the time we were small children to be humble, not brag, not boast, etc. Though it’s not what we’ve been taught, it is healthy and correct to celebrate those moments and wins and to celebrate what we’ve accomplished, because they are the foundation for the next chapter of your life. Give yourself permission to think about, reflect on, write down, and consider your wins.

3: Identify areas you performed well in

What did you do that made a big difference, and what did you do exceptionally well? Identify those areas.

4: Identify areas you could’ve done better in

Ask yourself which areas your performance was lacking in. Where did you miss an opportunity? Identify areas where you lacked in performance or completely missed an opportunity, and own them.

5: Answer, “What did I not do that I needed to do?”

Don’t interpret this as a negative focus. Reflect on moments you could’ve taken positive action and, for whatever reason, you did not do so. It’s important because we’re going to go to another question here in a moment that will expound on this. What opportunities? What did you not execute on? What habits did you not form? What tasks did you avoid? What disciplines did you forsake?

6: Answer, “Why did I not do the things I needed to?”

This is not a point to make excuses or rationalize yourself into oblivion. Evaluate what caused you to not take action. When you were presented with an opportunity, why did you not take advantage of it? Why did you not walk through that door? Was it fear? Insecurity? Was it a limiting belief that prevented you from executing?

7: Forgive yourself

Say it. “I forgive me.” Release yourself from the guilt, shame, condemnation, self-degradation we put on ourselves. Let it go. In forgiving yourself, in letting yourself off the hook, commit to a fresh and a more focused energy for what is now ahead of you.

8: Close the books on your last level

At the end of every business day, a business reconciles the sales and income and cash in the register. They close the books for the day. I’m suggesting you do that for the previous level. Look at all the wins, successes, failures, outcomes, zero it out, reconcile it’s over, and close the books. Start a new book for this new level.

9: Begin with a blank sheet of paper and a beginner’s mind

I borrow that wonderful picture from Michael E. Gerber, great writer, great business guru, great entrepreneur. He often used that as a way of encouraging us to clear the slate, start clean, start with a beautiful new sheet of paper, and let your mind imagine.

10: Consider the possibilities right in front of you

Despite the challenges you’ve faced, remember you’re closing the books, and turn your mind, focus and beliefs toward what is possible. Take whatever time you can to clear your mind and consider what could be your preferred, beautiful, prosperous, blessed future. Consider the possibilities.

11. Answer the question, “What do I want for my life, business, and relationships?”

What do you want for your general life? Your business or career? For relationships? Write your answers down.

12: Write your vision for what you identified in #11

In those categories you’ve unpacked, write a short paragraph describing in intricate, vivid detail, what it is you want in those areas. Don’t just write, “I want to make $150,000 next year.” Write a paragraph on why. Why would that change your life? What would you do with that money? Who could you help and assist? Write out what it would mean to you for you to have accomplished your particular objective.

13: Create a strategic plan

If you aren’t sure where to start with this, hire a coach. Find a consultant. Find a counselor in the area you need in order to formulate a plan to move the needle forward. Then, create a plan or find someone who can help you to create a strategic, detailed plan as to how you’re going to get where it is you really want to be.

14: Count the cost

Every goal you achieve is going to have associated cost with it. It’s going to cost resources, time, and energy. It’s going to possibly require you to reevaluate relationships and leave some people behind. Every good thing in life costs something, but the reward of doing that and following through is greater than the cost. It’s an investment.

15: Inventory and evaluate your relationships

List the names of the 10 people you spend the most time with or who have the greatest influence in your life, then evaluate those relationships on the basis of: Are they adding value to your life to help propel you toward the goals, objectives, and desires God has put in your heart?

16: Collaborate and cooperate with others in a community of like-minded leaders

It is unhealthy to be unequally yoked. If you’re going to hang out with positive, like-minded people, you’re going to have to find some relationships or some context, like a mastermind group, a group coaching program, or a support where you can glean from the wisdom, energy, and encouragement others offer you.

17: Confidently engage and execute your plan

It’s one thing to have a plan. It’s another thing to do it. Execute.

I know this sounds like a lot, but go through each one of these steps, and take time to invest in your future. It will make a huge difference in positioning you for the best year you’ve ever had.

5 Truths About Transitioning To Your Next Level

Last week, I introduced part one of a two-part series on what it means to take your life and leadership to the next level. The premise is there IS a next level available to you – right now!

How does one navigate their journey between their current circumstance and the next? Between here and there? What are the steps and considerations one might encounter on their way to their new level?

On today’s episode, I want to take a closer look at the keys you can use to unlock and unleash your next level.

Let’s talk about part 2 of The Next Level Challenge: 5 Truths About Transitioning To Your Next Level.

Part 1 Review:

  • The term “next level” is not necessarily defined in the dictionary, but if you look broad and deep enough, you will deduce that “next level” is somewhere different than where you are right now!
  • It’s higher, farther, more productive, more lucrative, more influential.
  • It is outside of the ordinary; beyond normal; a notch above the status quo.
  • It represents better, bigger, and MORE!

5 Truths About Transitioning To Your Next Level:

  1. Your next level is closer than you think.
  2. What got you here will not take you “there”.
  3. Next level results require next level thinking.
  4. Not everyone will go with you to the next level.
  5. Your next level is not your last level, but it is the next level.

Closing Thoughts:

  • The best time to commit to taking your life to the next level is right now!
  • Stop deferring your advance to an ambiguous timeline.
  • Make a decision, go for the gold, and do it today!

5 Questions To Ask When Mastering Positive Expectancy https://brianholmes.com/5-questions-ask-mastering-positive-expectancy/ https://brianholmes.com/5-questions-ask-mastering-positive-expectancy/#respond Wed, 14 Jun 2017 10:01:22 +0000 Val Kleppen http://brianholmes.com/?p=9967 Last week I revealed 5 mysteries of expectations, how they're set, and how they become reality. Do you truly believe you can achieve what you expect? Do you have positive expectations? Or is that something you need to work on?

Today I want to emphasize the importance of getting the space between your ears sorted out. In the next week, I want you to take one hour - one uninterrupted, distraction-free hour - to go through these factors: The beliefs you hold, the information you take in, the people in your life, the words that you speak, and your level of faith.

Write or journal the thoughts revealed to you once you sit and think on each of those 5 expectation mysteries. If you’re a Christian, ask the Holy Spirit to help you assess where you are with each of those key factors. When you can focus on and pinpoint the improvements to be made, it will make an incredibly positive difference in your life.

Last week I revealed 5 mysteries of expectations, how they’re set, and how they become reality. Do you believe you can achieve what you expect? Do you have positive expectations? Or is that something you need to work on?

Today I want to emphasize the importance of getting the space between your ears sorted out. In the next week, I want you to take one hour – one uninterrupted, distraction-free hour – to go through these factors: The beliefs you hold, the information you take in, the people in your life, the words that you speak, and your level of faith.

Now that we’ve reviewed the factors determining our expectations, let’s talk about the power of positive expectancy. One of the most powerful things I have ever come to realize is God has given each of us the power to create out of nothing. My belief is we were created in God’s image. Genesis chapter 1 tells us we were created in God’s image and in His likeness, meaning we look like Him, and we are like Him, having the same creative qualities He has.

In creation, Genesis 1, (hopefully you believe in creation because this won’t make sense if you don’t, but just go there with me) God thought a thought. He undoubtedly believed and had faith in His own power and character to perform what that thought was. Then He said, “Let there be,” and the Bible tells us whatever He said, “Let there be,” to it was, (became) out of nothing. He created things which did not exist in time and space, yet existed in the invisible world and really, more importantly, existed in the power of His mind and of His thought. Out of nothing, whatever He said, came to be.

I am convinced there was not a lick of hope involved in these creative statements of His. I’m sure God didn’t say, “Let there be ______,” then He sat back and started chewing His fingernails fretting, “Gosh, I really hope this thing works out. I’m going to give this a shot, and I hope it works.” No. He thought it, He believed it, He said it, and it was.

He fully expected what was in His mind would manifest in time and space. Are you freaking out on me yet? Let’s go to the Bible and lay a foundation for this first. The Bible says Abraham spoke of things that were not as though they already were. What? When Abraham prayed, he did not have to see the tangible result before he thought the thought, believed the thought, and talked about the future in the present tense. Do you get that? He talked about what did not exist as though it already existed. Because he said those words, what did not exist became a reality to him.

It’s one thing to verbally express desires and leave them as such. You can talk all you want, but what you say must be aligned with what you believe in your heart. You have to set your expectations from a place of sincerity and integrity, deep within.

What are you seriously expecting? What do you sincerely expect to show up for your life, for your marriage, for your job, your business, your ministry, your money? Talk is cheap. What is truly in your heart of hearts?

Here’s an exercise for you to do from a place of honesty, transparency, and integrity. If you’re going to master positive expectancy, start by answering these 5 questions.

1: What do I want for my life?

Go through all areas of your life and examine what you want most. This is not a time to set goals. Start with simple statements. “I want to have a better marriage. I want to have a net worth of $500,000. I want to own a new airplane.” These are not specific goals so much as simply identifying a want right now. What do you want for your life? Describe in detail.

2: Why are these things important to me?

Are they even important to me really? We say we want things, but are they really important? If so, why are they important? Be honest and specific.

3: What obstacles (internal or external) have I allowed to negatively impact my expectations in these areas?

I suspect some of the things you want in your life, you wanted this time last year. Why did they not show up? Possibly, it’s because although you desire them, you do not expect them.

4: What am I willing to do about this?

Are you willing grapple with whatever the negative thing is, eradicate it, move it out, and replace it with positive expectancy?

5: Am I willing?

Are you willing to dump the distractions, disconnect from the naysayers, and discontinue the negative self-talk holding you back? Are you willing? Yes or no. If so, who are you going to allow to hold you accountable to do this?

Here’s my charge to you today: Set your mind on bigger and better things. Believe all God has planned for your life. Don’t settle for only half of it. Set your mind to positively expect you’re going to have everything God has designated for you and your life.

Expect great things to be coming your way. Master the power of positive expectancy.

On today’s program, I want us to begin to explore what it means to take our life and leadership to the next level.

I’m also going to be sharing with you why the next few weeks are so very strategic for me, for our podcast, and for our work, AND why what we are sharing is going to make a massive difference in your life.

For the next two weeks, let’s talk about The Next Level Challenge: What is it, why should I pursue it, and who is responsible?

next level challenge pt 1

On today’s program, I want us to begin to explore what it means to take our life and leadership to the next level.

I’m also going to be sharing with you why the next few weeks are so very strategic for me, for our podcast, and for our work, AND why what we are sharing is going to make a massive difference in your life.

For the next two weeks, let’s talk about The Next Level Challenge: What is it, why should I pursue it, and who is responsible?

What Is The Next Level?

  • Let’s begin by considering the meaning of NEXT LEVEL.

What’s At Risk:

Are you willing to settle for what is getting you by, or are you ready to go after ALL that is available to you?

LIFE:

  • Health
  • Marriage
  • Relationships
  • Finances
  • Spiritual life
  • Mental/Emotional Well-being
  • Education/Personal Development

BUSINESS/WORK:

  • Dreams/Goals
  • Business Endeavors
  • Career/Job
  • Charitable work
  • Social contributions
  • Making a difference
  • Serving your community

MINISTRY:

  • Pastor
  • Staff Member
  • Para-church ministry leader
  • Marketplace

Wherever you are, whoever you are, there is a NEXT LEVEL waiting for you even now!

Closing Thoughts:

  • What if you had an option to do something different?
  • What if you could pivot to more meaningful work?
  • What if your WHAT, WHERE, and WHO were to change substantially in the next 12 months?
  • What if you could dream without limitations?

Announcements:

1.  Strategic Influencers Mastermind

We have recently expanded for a few openings in our next-level mastermind group for Strategic Influencers just like YOU. The purpose of this group is to connect emerging leaders for sharing ideas, purposeful collaboration, relational and business accountability, and ultimately, each member realizing “NEXT-LEVEL PERFORMANCE!”

This is not a marketing effort to get people into a course. In fact, this is not a course and it is not coaching. I’m looking to grow my businesses in a co-operative environment and also share my knowledge and experience with those who are ready to take their life and their leadership to the next level.

For more information on this incredible opportunity, go to …
