Brian Holmes Learning to Hear

Are you hearing voices? Well there’s one voice you need to be listening for…

We find ourselves in a season right now where God is inviting us to LEARN what it means to be LED by the Spirit; to follow hard after Him; to trust His leadership; and to HEAR His voice. One of the challenges we face as 21st century Christian’s is that somewhere along the way, our reliance factor changed over from relying on HIM, and we have become more self-reliant. The truth is that APART from Him we can do nothing. So, more than ever before, it is imperative that we re-up our commitment and dedication to pursuing Him, learn how to hear His voice, and follow His leadership

On todays program, I want to share with you 7 KEYS that will move you forward in mastering the Art of Hearing God’s Voice and being led by Him.

BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE:

Jeremiah 7:23-25

23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’ 24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the  stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward. 25 Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets, daily rising early and sending them.

Psalm 81:13-14

13 “Oh that My people would listen to Me,
That Israel would walk in My ways!
14 “I would quickly subdue their enemies
And turn My hand against their adversaries.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES:

Abraham Take now your son … Moses Go back to your homeland, and tell Pharaoh … David When leadership was lacking, David said, I will … Jonah God called and Jonah ran; had to get his attention Jeremiah God specified his calling and place, and Jeremiah argued

7 KEYS TO EFFECTIVE LISTENING:

  1. God is always speaking
  2. I must place VALUE on His Words and on hearing His voice
  3. It takes TIME to listen
  4. To hear His voice, I must eliminate all distractions and
focus on hearing (Incline my ear)
  5. I must listen with my heart
  6. I must receive His love, His correction, and His
instruction. Submitting to His Word and heart is in my
    best interest
  7. I must listen with a willingness and intent to obey

  1. This podcast was right on time!! I was just praying to God for his help to be able to hear him better and to get direction. Then I turned on my stitcher app and there I say your podcast with the latest show and I was like THANK YOU Lord!!! Your Seven Keys have given me direction on how to prepare myself to hear from God. I have written them in my prayer journal. Along with the 7 keys and the scriptures you have pointed out I will continue to meditate on them as I practice the art of hearing from God. To answer your question where I am at in my pursuit of his hearing his voice . . . I am reading a book on the subject . . . I have also studied sermons on the subject. . . I have prayed to God for clarity, for help on how to hear from him, I try my best to continually talk to God, but I get distracted so easily, I can’t seem to keep my mind quiet long enough . . .I want to get to point where I wake up in the morning and I am able to hear clearly from God what He would want me to do to do for the day . . . and then throughout the day to be able to hear from Him continually to be in His will, to be able to make Godly decisions. . . I must say I am so thankful I found out about your podcast from Ray Edwards show a few months back . . .your podcast is quickly becoming my favorite!!! The practical information you provide is very a treasured resource to me! Thank you for all that you do!!!!

  2. Chanty, thank you SO much for the kind and thoughtful comments. I am delighted to hear how God is speaking to you through the podcast. I can really relate to the difficulty of ‘quieting the mind’. In fact, I just arrived home from a 5-day retreat (no phones, no internet), and WOW, it is amazing what happens when we are intentional about time with Him. I encourage you to continue in your quest to hear him. By the way, you should look into a ministry called Fellowship of the Sword. They are based in Ft. Worth, and have an event called HeartQuest for ladies, and Quest for men. Changed my life. Please feel free to share the podcast with others you think would benefit. Many blessings!
